Comments Off on Seaweed & Bonne Foi
Why is seaweed such a vital ingredient in formulations which promote good health and heaing? Why do we at Bonne Foi use it in the formula for our skin care line? It’s not pretty to look at. It doesn’t have a pleasant odor. Why then is it so important?
Seaweed lives and thrives in the ocean. The ocean contains minerals, vitamins and nutrients that have been proven to promote healing for centuries. There is mention of the ancient cultures, including the Romans used seaweed to heal burns, cuts ad even reduce swelling. In Japan the people include seaweed in their diet, and that fact is thought to help keep the level of cancer very low in that country. We like it for all of those reasons, but mainly for it’s anti-inflammatory properties.
You say you don’t care how good it is for you, you would never eat seaweed in any form? Well you are probably already consuming plenty of it without knowing. If you eat sushi, it’s in there. If you brush your teeth its in your toothpaste. Like a little jelly on your toast? Think seaweed. And for those of you who love your dairy products, it is in your yogurts, chocolate milk, and health drinks.
Quote from the www.skinstore.com/seaweed site:
“ A traditional marine cure and as a relaxing treatment, seaweed baths were popular during Edwardian times, particularly in Britain and Ireland where seaweed was indigenous to the area. Ancient Greeks believed that seaweed could encourage longevity while preserving their health. Seaweed baths and treatments were commonly used to treat ailments assumed to be the result of a mineral imbalance. Steaming seaweed produces oils filled with minerals, vitamins, proteins, and complex polysaccharides. Since the oils become suspended in the water, they are readily absorbed by the skin’s pores, which have become opened by the steam. Credited with detoxifying the body, seaweed offers restorative capabilities. Seaweed treatments, wraps, and poultices are used to remove toxins while also infusing the skin with the rich nutrients found in seaweed…..
Seaweed offers conditioning capabilities for the skin as well as for the hair and is used in treatments for cellulite and aging.
Absorbing large concentrations of chelated minerals daily, seaweed is filled with Selenium, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium, Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Manganese, and Zinc. It is also vitamin rich, containing up to a dozen different vitamins (A1, C, E, K, B1, B2, B6, and B12). Seaweed offers conditioning capabilities for the skin as well as for the hair and is used in treatments for cellulite and aging. Hair products containing seaweed boost moisture and shine, improving the look and feel of the hair. Skin products containing seaweed are often non-irritating, while enhancing the skin’s natural glow.”
That is why we use seaweed in our natural skin care line here at Bonne Foi.
Comments Off on 8 Ways to a Healthy Summer
Summer is one of my favorite times of the year, the next most favorite being the fall. I know we all complain about the heat, but here in Huntington Beach it’s usually fairly cool in the morning, hot in the afternoon and it cools down again in the evening.
For those of us with children, summer is our main vacation time. It’s a time to travel, to go to amusement parks, to head to the mountains or beaches. This is family time.
So what can we do to help make certain we stay strong and healthy for what is left of the summer?Eat fresh fruits and vegetables Take a multivitamin Stay hydrated Wash up thoroughly after spending time in public places, and when we are in the large crowd at amusement parks, use sanitizer wipes to keep hands clean Use sunscreen, sunburns are a big cause of pain and discomfort in the immediate, and in the long run set us up for skin cancer STAY Hydrated!! Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink water. And if you plan on being out in the sun for the entire day, make up some water bottles with plenty of ice and maybe even some lemonade. Children will only drink so much water, but some lemonade that has plenty of ice in it is better than becoming dehydrated. Try to keep stress levels low. It can be difficult with working parents to coordinate day care for children during the summer. Network with other working parents and see if you can help each other out. Instead of each of you having to miss work, perhaps each person takes one day off and takes the others children. Let your children play. Don’t try to make the perfect summer, just have some days where there isn’t a grand plan. Trying too hard to fill every minute with activity can be overwhelming for you and your children
At Bonne Foi, we are lucky to be located in Huntington Beach. Our company is in a location that other’s come to for a vacation, and sometimes a walk along the beach, snow cone in hand, can be the perfect way to spend the afternoon.
Don’t forget your sunscreen, your Keratin Hair treatment, and your Bonne Foi moisture cream.
