At Bonne Foi we understand there is more to gaining health than simply eating and exercising. Water for hydration, green tea for helping to keep away impurities, massage to break up impurities in the system, and a little Tai Chi to strengthen our muscles and make us flexible. All of these are now widely practice in our part of the world as beneficial to our health.
In the western world, many of us associate spices with food and cooking which is normal but very limiting. While spices add color and flavor to the foods we eat, most spices actually have a medicinal properties which make them ever more valuable.
For years I have told my clients who have been suffering with stomach ailments to eat a little ginger; Ginger has the ability to aid with digestion disorders and nausea. Studies also support Ginger as an excellent way to decrease inflammation and inhibit pain. In fact, a most recent study regarding the pain relief of migraines shows ginger powder to be just as effective, in relieving migraine pain than the most prescribed pharmaceuticals. While the ginger powder has virtually no negative side effect, most pharmaceuticals have many unfavorable side effects.
Also in the Ginger family are Turmeric and Cardamom. Cardamom has a unique peppery citrus flavor. This makes it an intriguing spice to use with desserts as well as main dishes. Rich in fiber, Cardamom also has been shown to aid in digestion and has been found effective in silencing ‘hiccups’. The seeds of the Cardamom plant have many uses as well. Chewing the seeds are an excellent aid with the cessation of smoking and in India, it is common practice to chew on a couple cardamom seeds after a meal as a ‘breath mint’. An anti-inflammatory, Cardamom has been shown to lower blood pressure and is especially effective in healing issues of the mouth. If you are not inspired to add Cardamom to your diet yet, the fact that it is high in antioxidants makes it a must.
Another amazing spice coming from India, is Turmeric. As an anti inflammatory agent, Turmeric can be used topically, as well as internally. In the healing of rashes, bites and bruises use Turmeric topically. As does cousin Cardamom, Turmeric ranks high on the list for antioxidants. As well, studies suggest that both, Cardamom and Turmeric, are vital players in fighting cancer and both are instrumental in the role of brain health.

Bonne Foi & Beautiful Hair
Comments Off on Bonne Foi & Beautiful Hair
At the Holidays we are more joyous, we are more stressed, we sometimes try to cram more work into a shorter day so that we can attend to our Holiday Chores..We buy special, fancy Holiday clothes for parties and celebrations, and we take photos to commemorate these special occasions. It’s a time of year when we really want to look our best.
Our hair and skin can make a big difference in how we feel and look at this time of the year, so why not try a few simple changes that can help. First off, when you head to the salon for your new winter style, ask your hair stylist for a recommendation for a more gentle shampoo. At salons, they sell several different brands of high quality hair products. In general they use more natural ingredients, less phosphates and more ingredients that help maintain a positive PH balance, which is essential for shiny, soft hair.
After you shower, towel dry your hair gently, and apply our Bonne Foi Keratin Hair Treatment. Keratin is a building block of hair, and our special formula will help your hair gain back its natural texture and shine. Then let your hair dry naturally, with no blow drying or styling. If you wash your hair every day, try skipping a day. Your hair will appreciate the rest and you probably won’t have to style it as much either.

On Thanksgiving, we eat too much, and we eat things we normally wouldn’t. So this year, here at Bonne-Foi, we went out to look for an appetizer that would be tasty, but not too fattening and also satisfying. Beauty & Life’s Stresses

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” ― Maya Angelou
Life, no matter where we live, can leave us at times overly stressed, it’s just a fact. And when we get stressed the side effects are lost sleep, poor eating habits and often a lack of exercise. All of which will show on our face, causing us to age faster than we would like.
It is important that we recognize when stress is getting the better of us. To stop, breathe, and take a moment to eliminate things from our life where we can, to commit to eating properly and perhaps even to meditate.Life and the experiences we go through make us who we are. It is how we handle the tough times that teaches us what is truly something to fret over, or when it’s something we should dismiss and walk away from. Sometimes it’s going through the tough times that teach us to be more compassionate and caring for others who are struggling.
So, when life gets hard, stop for a moment take time out to care of yourself, take a long soak in Epsom salts and Lavender and use your day time Bonne Foi facial products. Then have a nutritiousmeal filled with colorful veggies. Then read a good book and get ready to face the world once again. .

Fresh and Youthful Skin
Comments Off on Fresh and Youthful Skin
How to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful? The best thing you can do is use our Bonne Foi product line. In conjunction with that it is important to spend as little time in the sun as possible. You will want to be outside enough to keep your levels of Vitamin D up, of course, but you need to wear sunscreen and if I can talk you into it, a hat as well.
It is also important to learn how to handle stress. Stress and alchohol as well as cigarette smoke are really hard on our skin. Don’t forget to eat your fruits and veggies because we know for certain they help you insides stay fresh and the colors of the veggies can help your complexion look rosy as well. But just know that no matter how hard we try, genetics and the aging process will have an effect on our skin. We know that for women in particular, our Hormone levels change as we age; we lose Estrogen, our skin tone changes. Those of us who had oily skin growing up may start to experience patches of dry skin. Our pores become larger and wrinkles begin to form and deepen with each day.
You can’t stop all the signs of aging, or turn back the clock. But there is hope. All of our Bonne Foi products have been developed based upon award-winning research and use natural ingredients to produce a more youthful-looking skin texture. We incorporate the use of seaweed, an organic source of vitamins, minerals, omega-3 , omega-6 and anti-oxidants into our products. Based upon Nobel Prize winning research we know these nutrients are key ingredients to repairing and rebuilding cell structure. In turn that helps our skin stay beautiful.
So to recap eating green leafy vegetables and taking natural, plant-based supplements which are high in beta carotene and vitamin C, as well as drinking plenty of water and green tea, are known to help keep skin and hair in top shape. Use your sunscreen, and use your Bonne Foi.

The Dangers of Tanning
Comments Off on The Dangers of Tanning
Sunscreen is a topic we have posted about several times, so I think you get the point that we think it is very important you protect your skin before you head outside. But today I read some disturbing news about tanning beds. Do you remember when tanning beds were considered a status symbol? That is not the case anymore. Apparently now there are states moving to outlaw them. Studies have shown they are just as dangerous to our skin as sitting in the sun for hours. UV rays from any source can cause skin cancer and we have to be careful how we treat our skin.
Yes, it feels lovely to bask in the warmth of the sun, and yes, we look a little better with a slight tan on our skin, but, if you have ever seen someone suffer from skin cancer. You will quickly change your opinion. I have known people who, as a result of sun damage, have had to undergo painful surgery, skin grafting and even radiation treatments.
Another myth we would like to dispel is the belief that if you don’t get an actual sunburn there is no damage to our skin. The truth is that all the little things add up. Each hour your skin is exposed to the sun’s rays, or to the light in a tanning bed causes underlying skin damage. That’s why the left side is more afflicted in people who drive a lot .the forearms and hands are exposed to more sun when driving as well.
So please, take precaution to cover up. Get used to the pale look and revel in your smooth, wrinkle free skin instead of looking for that warm color of a tan. No matter how you achieve that tanned look, it is going to be harmful.
