Spring time is here..Not that is ever far away here in Huntington Beach, Ca, or Surf City as some would call it. Our summers are hot, but because we are on the ocean, there is almost always a breeze. In the mornings, when it’s really hot inland, the fog rolls in off the ocean. It burns off by afternoon, and the sun shines brightly until those early evening sunsets around 8:00 pm.

During those warm afternoons, it is the perfect time for walking shorts. Not too short, just right for a warm, spring day.

Take a look at these pretty shorts from the Elle Magazine site:

There are five things that everyone can do to keep themselves healthy and looking good:

Eat good foods, leafy green vegetables, colorful fruits and vegetables Drink plenty of water, room temperature is best Spend a little time outdoors every day Put on sunscreen Get a good night’s sleep Sleep is everybit as important as nutrition in helping you to keep your mind, body and skin healthy longer. WebMd recently posted this slide show all about the benefits of a good night’s sleep: ”

Faster-Healing Skin

“Beauty sleep” is real. Your skin uses sleep hours to heal itself from the day’s damage. When you drift off, your skin gets the chance to improve. That’s why you may wake up looking fresh and rosy.”

And of course us our natural skin care products. ( you know I had to throw that in).  Bonne Foi

Bonne Foi and Dancing

Want to look and feel younger? First make sure you are using our Bonne-Foi Natural Skin Care line. Next, laugh several times a day. When the news about all the bad things happening in the world start to wear you down, turn it off. Find something to think about that will make you smile and feel hopeful again. And last but not least, DANCE!!

Why Dancing? For several reasons. One, music is almost universally thought of as one of the best ways to life out spirits and soothes our souls. It can transport us back in time to events that make our hearts happy. Second, I challenge anyone to stay sad while they dance. It is virtually impossible. Last but not least, dancing is aerobic, gets your heart pumping, and for most of us, it involves at least one other person.  Dancing uses all different muscle groups, and it makes you happy. If you don’t have a partner or a friend to go out dancing with, join a line dancing class.  It will get you into a very social environment where you will not only have fun; you will probably even make some new friends.

Look at all those stars who participate in Dancing with the Stars, some of them start out heavy, awkward, and for the most part they end up thinner and in much better shape. I am not saying that will happen to you right away, but if you keep it up over time, you will begin to notice a difference in your body, and in your mind.

So the formula for staying young and vital? Eat colorful food, take long walks in the fresh air a few times a week, use Olive Oil for cooking instead of butter. Wash your face with Bonne Foi facial cleanser, and use the Keratin Hair treatment. Last of all, Dance. “ I Hope you dance, I hope you dance..”

Beautiful You, Beautiful Home

Beautiful home, Beautiful you.

Bonne Foi is a skin care line, that much you know. But we care about everything that affects how you look and feel. We blog about nutrition, fashion, makeup, and today we want to talk about your home. It is your environment, one that you come back to every day.

We sometimes take our homes for granted, let things lapse, collect clutter and with everything else going on in our  busy lives, neglect how our homes look and feel. If you aren’t happy with the way your home looks, you will feel that it reflects poorly on yourself. It’s not an active thought but more of a subconscious feeling that registers each time you enter. Today we’re going to explain exactly what can be done to provoke a sigh of relief instead of the usual dulled response when walking through the front door.

First things first, fill your house with shapes and textures that set you at ease. Even if it’s a driftwood lamp, it will be a piece of your happiness and comfort. Most people use pictures and such to relive old memories but the connections between objects and their hidden meanings can tell a stronger story than any picture.

Second, fill your home with your favorite smells and scents. Aroma therapy has been around for ages and has been proven to alleviate stress. It will also keep your home smelling fresh and inspire your family to do the same. Scented candles or oils that soothe you, vanilla, or lilacs, lavender of ocean breeze can instantly relax and soothe you after a hard day.

Third, take a little time to just look around. Appreciate what you have always liked about your home. And, maybe take a trip to TJMaxx, find some brightly colored throw pillows to replace those old ones on the couch. Or a soft throw in a pretty shade of blue.

Make your home beautiful, simple and clean, or bursting with color and fun, whatever will make your happy to be there at the end of the day!!

Winter Skin

Winter Skin

Winter cold brings dry itchy skin. What causes it and how you can repair it?

WebMD has a great article on that common, uncomfortable thing that almost everyone experiences at this time of year. Dry Skin. While some people are simply born with dry skin, most are not. Dry skin not only feels bad, but when it goes to the extreme where you skin cracks and bleeds, you are at a much higher risk for serious infection.

The chilly winter win is certainly one of the causes of dry skin. There is less moisture in the air at this time of the year. Add to that the fact that as it gets colder outside, we turn on the heat inside the house.  When it is cold and we run the heater constantly, that warm dry air will cause your skin to dry out.

Bonne Foi can and will help rehydrate your cells, and you can use it not only on your face and neck, but also your hands. Beyond that, WebMD has some other steps you can take to prevent your skin from drying out.

“Your skin is your body’s first line of defense against the elements. When sun, wind, and cold leave skin dry and itchy, don’t hide it under long pants and gloves. Replenish it!

To get the kind of smooth, sleek skin you’ll want to show off, learn these 8 top causes of, and fixes for, dry skin.

1. Winter Weather

When the temperature drops, the humidity level plunges too. Dry air leaves skin parched. “Once the weather starts to change, I see patients coming in complaining of dry, itchy skin,” says Linda Stein Gold, MD, clinical research director for the dermatology department at Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital.Turning up the thermostat doesn’t help, either. Indoor heating strips even more moisture from the air — and your skin.

Quick Fix: Dial Up the Humidity

Install a humidifier in your home to keep air moist. Set humidity at a constant 45% to 55%, and the temperature at a balmy 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Before you go outside in wintry weather, create your own moisture barrier. Protect your most sensitive parts — lips, face, and hands — with a scarf and gloves.

2. Steamy Showers

Setting the shower to steamy soothes your body, but it won’t do your skin any favors. “I know it feels wonderful to stand in a really hot shower… but it can dry out the natural oils in our skin more quickly,” Stein Gold says. Standing under that hot spray long enough to belt out your favorite tune is also a no-no. The longer you linger in the shower, the more you dry out your skin.

Quick Fix: Cleanse Coolly and Quickly

Dial down the shower temperature to lukewarm, and keep showers short. Five minutes is enough to get clean without over-drying. Save the singing for your car.

3. Moisture-Robbing Soaps

Don’t put just any bar of soap into your shower dish — they’re not all the same. Wash with a harsh soap and you’ll send your skin’s natural moisture barrier straight down the drain.

Quick Fix: Go Mild

There is another way to help your dry skin, It’s something you might not even guess. Houseplants. Plants release nutrients and moisture into the air. Take your more fragile plants indoors, and buy a couple of inexpensive plants, As you water and feed them, you help keep your indoor environment healthier and more moist.

But most of all, use your Bonne Foi products to keep your skin moisturized and looking soft.

Bonne Foi Cell Rejuvenation Tonic

Bonne Foi Cell Rejuvenation Tonic was formulated by our lab chemist based on a 2003 Nobel Prize winning discovery. Peter Agre’s research focused the ability to re-hydrate our skin, even on the cellular level. His award winning research proved that using the right formula, one that could deliver water-channel proteins thus enabling water molecules to pass directly through the cell’s membranes. This formula allows even more moisture and nutrition to flow directly into your skin’s cells.

When we are younger, the cells that our skin is made up of are full of moisture. They are at their prime and full of that moisture, so our skin looks smooth and unlined. As we age, the sun, stress, poor food choices, they all add up and our cells don’t have as much moisture so our skin will sag. It is kind of like wearing a certain size of clothes for years and then losing a ton of weight. The clothes, or in this case our skin, maintain their size has lost its mass, so the clothes will hang loosely on their frame. The same thing happens with our skin. Now, usually we would just toss the old clothes aside and buy something that fits better but this is our skin, so what do we do?

We have learned that eating healthy, colorful fruits and veggies, staying out of the sun, or at least well protected with a good quality sunscreen, and keeping ourselves well hydrated all help to keep our skin looking good longer. It’s not always easy to remember sunscreen and healthy food in a busy lifestyle, but not impossible. When you have some free time, make a list of your favorite healthy foods and drinks, then keep them on your morning path. Take an orange to work, a veggie salad to school and have a vegan burrito for dinner. It will keep your body stocked up on those vitamins you miss with a burger and fries.

Are Vitamins Good for Your Skin?

Comments Off on Are Vitamins Good for Your Skin?

Vitamins are a source of some controversy right now. For years the big manufacturers of of vitamins and supplements and even the medical profession have been touting the benefits of vitamins and minerals. At Bonne Foi, although we don’t dispute the importance of vitamins and minerals, we know that those vitamins and minerals benefit you more when they come from fresh, pesticide free fruits and vegetables.

Apples and broccoli will do more for your skin than a tablet from a bottle. The fish oil in a piece of fresh salmon will do plenty to keep your mind sharp and your skin soft and clear of wrinkles. Green Tea and is another source of anti-oxidants that will help not only with skin and hair, but also with weight loss. Grape seeds extract, coconut oil and coconut water all have great benefits for your skin and health. One of the very best ways to keep your skin looking beautiful and smooth is Olive Oil. Instead of butter, use olive oil for cooking, on your bread, and you can even spread a light layer of it on your feet and legs at night to keep your skin soft and smooth.

At Bonne Foi, Olive oil is one of the ingredients in our skin care line. No matter what the various studies say, it is always best to do things in moderation. Never take more than the recommended dosages for any vitamin or nutritional supplement. Too much of a good thing is never a good thing. You can cause illness and liver failure when taking too much of any supplement. Our advice is get your nutrients from good food.

Take care and eat well…
