When I was growing up, chocolate was the enemy. It was blamed for acne breakouts, for weight gain and sugar based mood swings. So now it’s good for us? Yes. But be careful. There are chocolate bars loaded with extra fat and sugar, should we eat those? Well, maybe once in a while, but eat one or two every day and you will gain weight and the sugar lows will ruin your afternoons. But, if you buy dark chocolate, with the lower fat and sugar content and just have a couple of pieces a day, it will be good for you!!

From the Fitness Web Site: “

Dark Chocolate

Why It’s Healthy:

— Just one-fourth of an ounce daily can reduce blood pressure in otherwise healthy individuals.

— Cocoa powder is rich in flavonoids, antioxidants shown to reduce “bad” LDL cholesterol and increase “good” HDL levels.

Quick Tip:

A dark chocolate bar contains about 53.5 milligrams of flavonoids; a milk chocolate bar has fewer than 14.” So for health reasons, I would stick with the dark chocolate, but if you want to feel less guilty about eating a Milky Way bar once in a while, this will help!

The bottom line is this, both salmon and chocolate are good for you. For most of us, chocolate sounds like the most fun, but a scrumptious salmon dinner can be pretty tempting too!! You don’t have to choose, have a little bit of both this weekend.

Bonne Foi…
