Comments Off on Summer Time Refreshment
How to stay cool and keep on track? At Bonne Foi we know that eating well is just as important as good skin care. But eating well doesn’t have to mean eating bland. Eating well can be tasty and fun.
Summer is most people’s favorite time of the year, but it can get pretty hot here in Southern California. So in the summer, most of us opt for grilling and eating light. Having to use the stove and oven on an already hot day just doeant appeal to me. We also know that this time of year most of us show our bodies more than we would in the fall or winter, and looking our best makes us feel better about ourselves.
Out on various websites there are great recipes that are fat free and healthy but still cool and tasty for those hot summer nights when cake and cookies are too hot to cook and too fattening for that little swimsuit.
Here is the recipe from Allrecipes.com:

Original recipe makes 6 servingsChange Servings
1 lemon peel, finely diced
1 cup water
½ cup sugar
½ cup of lemon juice
½ cup carbonated mineral water
6 strips of lemon zest for garnish
1. In a saucepan, stir together the diced lemon peel, 1 cup of water and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, and allow to cool.
2. In a pitcher or bowl, stir together the lemon syrup with peel, lemon juice and mineral water. Pour into an ice cream maker, and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Garnish each serving with a twist of lemon peel.
3. If you do not have an ice cream maker, you may freeze it in a tall canister. Freeze for 1 1/2 hours. Remove and stir with a whisk. Return to the freezer and stir about once every hour for about 4 hours. The more times you stir, the more air will be incorporated, resulting in a lighter finished product.
